Talking Art in Maine, Intimate Conversations: Michel Droge

When Cupid went Crazy. Oil on canvas.

Talking Art in Maine is a series of intimate, one on one conversations between artist, Jane Dahmen, and notable artists and curators who have made a substantial contribution to the arts in the state of Maine. They are offered free to the public.

Michel Droge is a painter, printmaker and educator who’s work engages with the environment and the human condition in an era of uncertainty. Michel creates abstract paintings of atmospheric environments with details of grids unraveling, constellations and micro organisms revealing an immersive macro/micro world.

In the process Michel embraces a layering of scientific research with inspiration from literary and poetic sources. Their print projects involve field research and collaboration with conservation and environmental groups such as Maine Audubon Society, the Island Institute and others.

Michel is the recipient of a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant and two Maine Arts Commission Grants, among many others.
