Lincoln County Community Theater
Your community, your theater!

Historic Lincoln Hall

Lincoln Hall was built in 1875 and was  intended to be an important building for public functions of Lincoln County.  As the social center of the community, the hall was used for fire company drills, balls, graduations, dances, benefits, temperance meetings, town meetings and conventions.  Shortly after 1900, roller-skating became popular.  The original wooden floor that was laid in a circular pattern to facilitate speedier action by the skaters is still in place today.  Company productions took place against four backdrop scenes and actors made use of the two small dressing rooms that still flank the stage.  The walls of these dressing rooms are filled with the signatures of every actor who took part in a production here, and that tradition continues today.

Sometime in the twenties, the theater was outfitted to accommodate moving pictures.  Today, Lincoln Hall is a two unit condominium. The Maine Coast Book Shop & Cafe occupies Unit One on the lower level.  Unit Two, the upper level and annex, is owned by Lincoln County Community Theater & Orchestra, a local non-profit organization.

Four to six live productions are presented each year. Movies continue to be shown year round, six nights a week in the summer and four nights a week in the winter.  Volunteers help keep things running smoothly, contributing to the maintenance of the building, as well as set-building, painting, lighting, ushering and helping to make plenty of popcorn. The original 1932 popcorn machine was retired last year due to the unavailability of repair parts and is on display in the lower lobby.

During the past seven years, LCCT has added a new annex with an elevator, office space & new handicap accessible bathrooms.  The building has been completely protected by a sprinkler system.  The movie projectors have been upgraded from the old carbon arc system to xenon lamps and surround sound was installed.  A new heating system was installed, and in the summer of 2008 the theater was air-conditioned for the first time in history. New seats and a Main Street marquee were added in 2009.  The final phase of renovation will include raking the seats and upgrading the stage and backstage areas.

Lincoln County Community Theater is a membership organization and is operated by a Board of Trustees. The mission of LCCT is to be a major community resource for the promotion, support, education, and production of all aspects of the performing arts, and to be stewards of the historic Lincoln Theater.
